Naturally Smart Grease Control
100% Wool Filters
for Kitchen Extract Systems
The Problem
Kitchen oil and grease build-up starts in the metal filters then travels through the canopy and ducts, all the way to the roof. It’s an ongoing problem that needs an easy, cost-effective solution.
Grease build-up in the canopy and duct can lead to fires, loss of income and rejection of insurance claims due to lack of maintenance and ultimately, closure.
Grease particles in a kitchen extract system accumulate to produce a very real risk of fire. Since the extract often penetrates deep within a building this means the risk of fire spreading from the kitchen through the ductwork is that much greater.
Clients with existing regular baffle filters are only likely to capture up to 20% of airborne grease, leaving 80% to travel through the canopy, ductwork, fan and onto the rooftop.
Of course, there is the century old method of traditional duct cleaning services. But what if there was a more sustainable, cost effective and environmentally friendly way of keeping your kitchen clean?
The Solution
The 100% Wool Filter System
These award-winning wool filters are easy to install and replace. Our wool filters are also available in many sizes which can be installed without any modification to your existing system or canopy.
Wool filters have created the original PREVENTATIVE solution for stopping the fire risk associated with grease build-up in kitchen extract systems. We can confidently state that wool filters are the ultimate fire protection for kitchen extract systems.
With Ecofleece wool filters, as the majority of grease is captured before it can enter the system, the fire risk within your canopy and duct is greatly reduced.
Changing to biodegradable wool filters that can be disposed without any special attention offers the best solution for capturing up to 98% of grease at the baffle filter. As well as helping the environment our system saves you the admin of organising regular grease extract system cleans and the hassle of closing your kitchen in preparation . Apart from protecting the ductwork from grease build-up, they also protect every component of the Kitchen Extract System including the baffle filter, canopy void, fire suppression system and fan.

What are Ecofleece Filters made of?
Ecofleece filters are 100% Wool.
Does wool catch fire?
Wool is naturally flame resistant and inherently flame retardant. This is due to its naturally high nitrogen and water content which means it requires a large amount of oxygen in order for it to burn. Such high water content and high nitrogen makes it difficult to ignite in the firdtfirst place but even if it does the natural fibres of wool swell and self-extinguish any flame.
Can Ecofleece wool filters fit into an existing canopy?
Yes, the Ecofleece system is designed to fit into existing canopies.
Can I install Ecofleece myself?
Yes, you can install Ecofleece wool filters yourself using the guidance documents provided. You can also check out our YouTube channel for a How To video.
How simple is it to change the wool filters and how often should they be changed?
Filter change is very simple. We have step by step guidance available to download, or you can check out our YouTube video. Changing Ecofleece varies as it depends on the volume of cooking, the menu (e.g. beef products produce more grease) and what cooking equipment is used. Wool filters do not expire according to time – a filter does not have to be changed until it is fully utilised.
Will I still need to have my kitchen extract system cleaned regularly?
Post Ecofleece wool filters installation, if used correctly, your grease extract cleaning and duct cleaning service will be vastly reduced, if required at all. To maximise the benefits of the Ecofleece wool filter system your kitchen extract system should be thoroughly cleaned to remove as much grease as possible prior to installation. This includes the canopy, ductwork fan and preferably the fire suppression system.
How do I clean the Ecofleece baffle filters?
Ecofleece baffle filters will stay clean if the wool has been fitted correctly to them. The exposed part of the baffle filter just needs a wipe down. Do not put filters in the dishwasher as this may misshape them or cause them to fall apart over time.
How do I dispose of the Ecofleece wool filters?
Ecofleece is made of natural material and is biodegradable therefore can be disposed of with food waste or to landfill.
What impact do the wool filters have on existing canopy clean certification and insurance coverage?
The use of Ecofleece wool filters will not change the requirement to produce evidence of a clean grease extract system (see What information do I provide to my insurance company?). Wool filters have been fire tested and are made of non-combustible material. They also comply with the globally recognised UL standards for Standard for Grease Filters for Exhaust Ducts.
What information do I provide to my insurance company?
A frequency of cleaning is usually provided/set by insurance companies, some refer to TR19 guidance. They require evidence that your grease extract system is being kept clean and at reduced risk on a regular basis. The huge benefit of Ecofleece wool filters is that your system is kept clean between cleans. You are therefore able to produce evidence of cleanliness to the same frequency as set/recommended by your insurer. Your duct cleaning contractor or an auditing company can provide the evidence required including photographs and a Certificate of Cleanliness should that be required.
