Control Grease at Source in Commercial Kitchens
A simple, cost-effective, sustainable fire protection solution, 365 days a year.
CAPTURE UP TO 98% OF AIRBORNE GREASE* BEFORE IT BECOMES A FIRE HAZARD

Smarter. Greener. Cleaner.
Ecofleece filters® is a high-efficiency primary grease filtration system that combines a 100% natural wool filtration layer with an integrated, all-in-one baffle frame to capture grease at canopy level.
Our wool-based filters capture up to 98% of airborne kitchen grease* before it enters the extract system. By significantly reducing grease build-up within canopies, ductwork, and extract fans, Ecofleece can help lower cleaning requirements by up to 75%**.
Wool is renewable, biodegradable and suppresses fire.
Ecofleece is a proactive approach to fire risk management. Naturally.
See how Ecofleece captures grease at the canopy to support cleaner kitchen extract systems and lower grease-related fire risk.
We’ve had Ecofleece in place in our kitchen for a year and a half now, and it’s made day-to-day maintenance so much simpler. We no longer have to soak baffle filters in harsh chemicals or train staff on the safe handling of those chemicals. The Ecofleece filters keep the system looking so clean, it’s like we had a deep clean yesterday.
Capture grease. Reduce disruption. Keep cooking.

THE PROBLEM

Grease Accumulation
Airborne grease travels beyond standard filters.

Concealed Contamination
Grease deposits build within ductwork and fans.

Cleaning Snapshot
Certificates reflect a system at inspection, not between services.

Hidden Fuel Load
Accumulated grease increases fire exposure.
Grease doesn’t stop at the canopy
Metal baffle filters typically allow 82–85% of airborne grease to pass into kitchen extract systems.
That grease accumulates within:
- Canopy voids
- Ductwork
- Fans
- Roof terminations
Over time, this creates a concealed and continuous fuel load above active cooking equipment.
REGULAR GREASE FILTER EQUALS
LOW GREASE CAPTURE

WHY THIS MATTERS
When fire enters the ductwork due to lack of maintenance, it can lead to loss of income, rejection of insurance, and ultimately, closure.
Flames can travel beyond the cooking area
Access for suppression becomes more complex
Emergency response resources escalate
Operational downtime increases
Repair and reinstatement costs rise
REAL INCIDENTS
The devastating consequences of inadequate grease capture. These are real-world examples of commercial kitchen fires that could have been prevented.
Lore of the Land, London
CAUSE OF FIRE
Believed to have originated in the kitchen, spreading through the extraction system.
RESPONSE
Over 70 firefighters attended with multiple appliances; the fire was found to be in the ducting between the first floor and the roof.
TGI Fridays, Edinburgh
CAUSE OF FIRE
Originated in the kitchen area, with fire development contained to the restaurant’s annex.
RESPONSE
Around 50 firefighters with 8 appliances attended; the fire spread through the kitchen area, causing structural damage and a partial roof collapse.
Shoreditch, London
CAUSE OF FIRE
Ignition of grease deposits within the kitchen extractor ducting, spreading vertically through the building.
RESPONSE
6 engines and 40 firefighters attended; ducting across 6 floors was destroyed as 65 people evacuated safely.
THE ECOFLEECE SOLUTION
Capture Grease at Source
Ecofleece is a 100% wool canopy filtration system designed to intercept airborne grease before it enters ductwork and mechanical components.
Ecofleece replaces standard baffle filters within existing canopy systems, supporting a significant reduction in TR19 cleaning frequency and associated disruption.

No redesign or operational downtime

Clean filter installed in frame

Grease captured in filter
BENEFITS OF ECOFLEECE
Simple installation
Suppresses fire
Cost-effective
Time-efficient
UL 1046 compliant | TR19 aligned | NAAD21 guidance | DW/172 specification
Designed to reduce grease risk at source while supporting efficient, compliant kitchen operation.

HOW ECOFLEECE WORKS

Air is drawn upward through a fire-retardant wool filtration layer installed in a frame within the canopy.
Grease particles attach to the fibres and are retained before entering ductwork.
The structure maintains airflow while trapping grease.
Visible saturation indicates replacement.
Get in Touch
Ecofleece wool filtration systems have been used in commercial kitchens globally for over a decade. They form part of a wider ventilation hygiene strategy and do not replace statutory inspection or contractor-led cleaning.
Designed to support systems operating in line with TR19 and DW/172 ventilation standards.
SUSTAINABILITY BY DESIGN
Ecofleece combines preventative grease capture with responsibly sourced wool from Responsible Wool Standard certified farms, with ecological outcomes verified through the Savory Institute.
The renewable wool media provides a more sustainable approach to grease management without routine chemical soaking or water-intensive filter washing.
Biodegradable natural wool media
No harsh chemical soaking or
water required
Renewable, responsibly sourced material

Verified ecological outcomes for healthier land and ecosystems.

Wool sourced from certified farms supporting animal welfare, responsible land management and social responsibility.
WHY WOOL?
Wool is naturally flame resistant and self-extinguishing, with the ability to form a protective char layer under heat exposure. For this reason, it is incorporated into protective base-layer systems used in firefighting, Formula 1 racing, and aerospace environments.
Its fibre structure also attracts and retains grease while maintaining stable airflow within the filtration matrix. Learn more about fire performance and compliance.
From farm to filter
The wool used in Ecofleece is sourced through The Woolkeepers® from Responsible Wool Standard certified farms, with ecological outcomes verified through the Savoury Institute, supporting transparent and regenerative supply chains.
Ecofleece gives us added peace of mind in the kitchen. Knowing that wool has natural fire-resistant properties is a real reassurance in a busy cooking environment.
