Performance evidence, product limitations and system responsibilities
Ecofleece Filters® is a product brand and trading name of Kiwibond International Ltd (Company Registration No. 15197405), registered in England and Wales, with its registered office at Unit 9 Hutton Street, Blackburn, BB1 3BY.
This Disclaimer explains the basis of Ecofleece performance statements and the conditions, limitations and responsibilities that apply when interpreting product information.
1. Performance Evidence Must Be Considered Separately
Performance figures relating to airborne grease capture and potential reductions in duct-cleaning frequency are supported by different forms of evidence and should not be treated as the same claim or as guaranteed site outcomes.
2. Airborne Grease Capture - Up to 98%
The claim of up to 98% airborne grease capture is supported by independent third-party performance testing conducted by ITW using the ASTM F2519 Method of Test under controlled conditions.
Testing relates to the specific wool-based filter configuration, airflow, grease-particle characteristics and test conditions described in the applicable Ecofleece air-filtration performance report. Results from a controlled test configuration should not be interpreted as confirmation that every Ecofleece installation will achieve the same result.
Actual grease-capture performance can vary depending on:
• cooking activity, appliance type and operating intensity;
• grease type, particle characteristics and grease loading;
• airflow design, volume, velocity and system balance;
• canopy and filter configuration;
• installation quality and correct assembly;
• wool-pad condition and replacement frequency;
• inspection and maintenance practices; and
• wider site and operating conditions.
3. Potential Reduction in Duct-Cleaning Frequency - Up to 75%
Potential reductions in duct-cleaning frequency of up to 75% are based on separate historical operational analysis, site observations and illustrative modelling. This evidence considers how increased grease capture at canopy level may reduce the amount of grease passing into downstream ductwork.
The figure is indicative only. It does not mean that a site can automatically extend its existing cleaning interval by 75%, and it is not a guarantee that any particular kitchen will achieve that reduction.
Any proposal to alter cleaning frequency must be based on the condition of the individual extract system and supported by appropriate inspection-led monitoring, grease-deposit measurement where applicable, maintenance records, risk assessment, insurer requirements and advice from a suitably qualified professional.
4. Comparison with Conventional Filtration
The performance of conventional metal baffle filters varies according to design, condition, cleanliness, installation and operating airflow. Airborne grease not captured at canopy level may pass into downstream components and accumulate over time.
Ecofleece is intended to improve grease capture at source, but it remains one component of a wider kitchen ventilation and hygiene system.
5. Testing, Certification and Brand References
Ecofleece Filters' testing and certification information includes Intertek's ETL Recognized Component, RC cETLus Recognized Component and ETL Sanitation Listed marks, as applicable. The two Recognized Component mark designs represent the same certification and should not be interpreted as separate certifications.
References to UL 1046, ULC S649, UL 710 and other applicable standards relate only to the specific products, components, models, configurations and conditions covered by the relevant test reports, certification listings and Authorisations to Mark.
Certification of individual products or components does not constitute certification of an entire premises, canopy, ductwork system or kitchen extract installation.
All certification marks and references remain subject to their respective authorisations, approved scope and conditions of use. Users should consult the current technical documentation for details of applicable testing, certification and model coverage.
6. Suitability, Survey and Installation
Initial system suitability, product specification and installation should be assessed in the context of the individual kitchen, cooking appliances, canopy, airflow and extract-system configuration.
An Ecofleece suitability survey supports product selection and site set-up based on conditions observed or information supplied at the time. It is not a fire risk assessment, insurer approval, legal compliance assessment, ductwork certification, ventilation hygiene report or guarantee of future suitability under every operating condition.
If cooking equipment, cooking method, menu, operating intensity, airflow, canopy configuration or other materialsite conditions change, suitability should be reviewed.
7. Fire, Heat and High-Risk Cooking
Ecofleece is a grease-filtration product. It is not a fire-suppression or fire-extinguishing system and is not certified to prevent kitchen fires.
Ecofleece filtration media must not be exposed to direct flame, excessive heat, burning embers, sparks or other conditions outside its intended parameters. Wool’s natural flame-resistant characteristics do not remove the need for appropriate fire precautions or safe cooking practices.
Particular attention is required for cooking involving wok stations, chargrills, salamander grills, solid-fuel or wood fired appliances, pizza ovens, high-output appliances, flambé activity or other processes that may produce large flames, flare-ups, radiant heat, embers or flash ignition.
Where open-flame, solid-fuel or high-output appliances are located within 45 cm of Ecofleece, site-specific assessment is required and the deflectors, heat shields, clearances or other protective measures specified for that installation must be fitted and maintained before use. Ecofleece filtration media must not be relied upon as a barrier against direct flame or excessive radiant heat.
Scorching, browning, charring, shrinkage or loss of loft are signs that media may have been exposed to excessive heat. Affected media should be removed from use immediately and should not be reinstated until the cause has been addressed and the system has been checked as appropriate.
8. Ongoing Inspection, Maintenance and Ventilation Hygiene
Ecofleece does not remove the need for routine inspection, maintenance or duct cleaning. Site operators and other responsible persons remain responsible for maintaining the wider kitchen extract system in accordance with applicable law, industry guidance, fire-risk assessment, insurer requirements and site-specific obligations.
This may include, where relevant, inspection-led monitoring, photographic evidence, cleanliness certification, grease-deposit measurement, planned maintenance, and competent professional advice.
Ongoing wool-pad replacement, visual checks, correct fitment, maintenance records and routine system monitoring remain the responsibility of the operator and other relevant duty holders.
9. Customer Documentation
Customers must follow the current applicable Customer Documentation supplied or made available to them, including the Operator’s Guide, Maintenance Manual, installation instructions, safety and best practices notices, site-specific guidance and training materials. These documents may be controlled customer resources and are not necessarily published on the public website.
The public website is not a substitute for Customer Documentation. Where there is a product safety instruction in the applicable Customer Documentation, that instruction should be followed for the relevant installation.
10. No Site Compliance or Insurance Guarantee
No statement made by Ecofleece, Kiwibond International Ltd, an Ecofleece Partner or any website, marketing or technical material should be interpreted as confirmation that a particular premises, canopy, ductwork system or kitchen extract system complies with all legal, regulatory, insurer, fire safety, workplace, building or other requirements.
Operators should engage appropriately qualified and competent professionals to inspect, assess, clean, maintain and advise on the wider system as required.
11. General Limitation
Performance figures, comparisons, cleaning-frequency scenarios and potential operational benefits are provided to explain product performance and possible outcomes. They are not guarantees for an individual site.
Nothing in this Disclaimer excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
For purchases made directly from Kiwibond International Ltd, contractual rights and liabilities are governed by the applicable Terms and Conditions of Sale and Supply and any order-specific terms.
